This photo gives one an idea of just how long the piles are. And you can't even see the top of this one! The piles are apparently being placed in position 
before the pile driver puts them down.

When I arrived at the club around 1:45, all of the pilings on the right side of the extension except the last one had been driven in. The pile driver is in place and preparing to put in the last one. The piles are very heavy (seven tons each)
 and the bottom is relatively soft, so it only took two blows of the hammer to set
this piling to the desired depth.

These are the next two piers to go in, They are being repositioned for the
next days work. The short section at the top is the end of the pier it's attached to.

The backfill sand arrives!

This would fill a lot of sandboxes! The Bobcat is already at work.

Here it is being dumped into place. When finished, the new walkway will be
even with the top of the wood cap on the bulkhead as it is on the 
South side of the club house.
