As presented by

Joe Lupton

During this rebuilding project, I have attempted to document the transformation from our club's old docks to our new floating docks. It was not possible to show each day, as I didn't get to the club each day. In fact, there were many days when the progress was difficult to see anyway.

As you proceed through this project, you will become aware of just how big this undertaking really was. Work began around the first of December. My first page photos were taken on 2 December and 5 December. I think I have pictures from every week of the project, and several pages for the same week when things were changing rapidly.

There were a lot of little issues that had to be resolved, as well as some big ones. Always there to see that they were settled properly and to the clubs advantage, was Phil Briggs. I do not think it's an overstatement to say that without Phil's presence on the site each and every day, the job would have taken much longer to complete, and at a higher cost. He really was the project engineer from it's inception. In fact, Phil did most of the design and layout work before the bids went out. Bellingham, who did our first floating dock project, and won the bid for this one, used Phil's design with very few changes.

Take your time, study the changes, and I think you will have a much better appreciation for the fine club we now enjoy.

8 May, 2004  FLAG RAISING DAY!

This was a beautiful day for Hampton Yacht Club! Officially, it can be said the work of rebuilding the new docks has been completed. About all that is left to do is some cleanup work around the North Docks parking lot and a small amount of paving; not really related to the docks themselves. That being the case, this will be the official last page of this project. Once everything has been finalized, all of the cleanup work completed, and the paving has been done, I may do a small addendum to show the final project. Phil has mentioned that there may be an aerial photo taken of the club once it is all finished. If so, I'll try to get that added here as well.

This became a much larger project than I first envisioned, and one I have thoroughly  enjoyed doing. I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have. Now, I will be putting it all in a power point slide show to save it for club records.

If you have any comments on this web project, please drop me a line.

Any questions regarding the project itself, either technical or otherwise, should be directed to the Club Manager at manager@hamptonyc.com who will see that it is addressed to the proper individual.
