Hampton Yacht Club presents
A DOUBLE
HEADER FEATURE PRESENTATION
May
Membership Meeting
May 12 at
7:30pm
FIRST: The Colonial Seaport Foundation
Find out how these modern-day "pirates", directed by HYC member
John Glass, are re-creating a floating teaching platform,
portraying a typical colonial coastal trader from the early
1800's. The crew will be able to demonstrate skills used by
seamen and explain the cycle of waterborne trade, the backbone
of Colonial America's economy. LUNA, a 47 foot wooden ketch
being restored in Deltaville, will also be used to accurately
portray a typical pirate ship of the era, complete with
authentically dressed pirates who will explain and demonstrate
the weapons and tactics used during the Golden Age of Piracy.
SECOND: Antiques Maps and Charts of Hampton Roads
To accompany the discussion of colonial coastal trading, HYC
members are invited to bring and display their collection of
antique maps and charts of Hampton Roads. This unique
opportunity to share and view such treasures is sure to be a
treat for all closet geographers, unprofessed pirates, secretive
historians, and clandestine cartographers. Don't miss this;
rumor has it the collective membership has some truly exciting
finds hanging in their hallways. |
