Big boat racers and event sponsors contributed event proceeds to the Christopher Newport University Sailing Team through the CNU Sailing Foundation. The race itself was a change of pace in that the start time was at 4:00 PM with an eye to taking best advantage of the sea breeze, which showed right on time. This was a "gentle" race around established marks in the Hampton Roads harbor. A post-race party on the third floor balcony of the Virginia Air and Space Museum capped off the event.
