Regattas & Registration

Hampton Yacht Club is the premier yacht club on the southern Chesapeake Bay for sailboat racing featuring keelboats, one design, and junior competition. 

 

HYC offers an active calendar of events throughout the year including Southern Bay Race Week, the largest regatta on the southern Chesapeake Bay and the Down the Bay Race from Annapolis, MD to Hampton, VA.  The Moonlight Triangle, Plantation Light,  Middle Ground Light Race, and Frostbite series offer mid-distance racing.  The Spring and Fall series offer windward/leeward racing.  Four annual events are designated to make up the HYC One Design Series including the HYC Annual One Design Regatta which spans nearly a century.

 

Over the years Hampton Yacht Club has hosted many national, continental and world championship events. Some of these events include the J-111 Worlds, Ida Lewis Women’s US Sailing Championship, and four USODA Optimist National Championships. The 2025 yachting calendar brought a host of exciting premier One Design events including the Viper 640 North Americans, the Albacore Internationals, the Sunfish Worlds Regional Qualifier, and the Hobie 33 National Championship. In 2026 the USODA Chesapeake Bay Championship will return to HYC.
