On The Water

Sailing and boating are the core values of the Hampton Yacht Club. There are many ways you can get out on the water and enjoy these activities. From dinghy to keelboat sailing to power and sail cruising – there is a lifestyle for everyone.

New To Boating?

Check out one of our many classes on seamanship, safety at sea, and rules of the road. You can also enroll in an adult Learn To Sail class. If you don’t own a boat, HYC has a fleet of 6 club-owned Sonars available for members of the Adult Sailing Program. Check out a Sonar for a fun sail or to race in a regatta. There are also HYC members always looking for crew on their boats for racing and cruising. The club is always looking for interested candidates to learn and help out during local regattas as race committee. Learn more about race committee duties. This is a great way to participate in the sport of sailing and fill an important roll.

Race Committee

Any good racing program requires support from a group of dedicated volunteers giving their time to help run the races. Big boats, small boats, juniors racing….you name it. All classes and events need qualified, talented folks to support their racing. In addition, there are many spots and opportunities for inexperienced people to join and learn what the race committee work is all about. Whether you would enjoy working on the main RC Signal Boat or zipping around the race course in a fast, nimble mark boat, there is a spot for you. We urge you to get involved and experience the comradery of working together for a day on the water.

Our Race Committee Chair is John McCarthy, a U.S. Sailing Certified Race Officer and Judge. John is always on the lookout for folks, experienced or learning, who would like to get involved in our on-the-water race committee efforts. Whatever your level of ability and expertise, John will be delighted to get you involved and help you find a good fit for an enjoyable race committee experience. John can be contacted by email at saltydog.pro@live.com.

In addition, John is a US Sailing Certified Course Instructor and offers excellent training opportunities each winter for folks to brush up on their race committee skills plus enjoy his regionally recognized courses on the Racing Rules of Sailing. Course offerings anticipated for this winter will be posted soon.
